The latest episode of the Burning Ambulance podcast features an interview with saxophonist Logan Richardson. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Richardson has recorded with people like Ambrose Akinmusire, Walter Smith III, Gerald Clayton, Joe Chambers, and Billy Hart, and was a member of the NEXT Collective, whose 2013 album Cover Art included jazz versions of tunes by D’Angelo, Drake, Jay-Z and Kanye West, Pearl Jam, N.E.R.D., and others. His 2016 album, Shift, featured Pat Metheny in a very rare sideman appearance, and his newest album, Blues People, will be out in April.
In our interview, Logan Richardson talks about Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman, the state of the jazz industry, the story behind the making of Shift, why he lives in Paris, and much more. It’s a long and very interesting conversation, and I hope you enjoy it.
